I think it’s a great trait to have… I studied psych and I find I don’t get overwhelmed or upset at people as easily as others do because I have the ability to put myself in other peoples shoes and understand all different points of view.
Let’s consider predicting the behavior of cheating.
If it was known and understood that a given student were prone to cheating and deceit at home (e.g., lying to parents, cheating at board games), it would be reasonable to predict that he or she may also be likely to cheat and/or practice deception in other settings (e.g., school, work, social scene), as well.
Knowing this, a teacher or school counselor could intervene in advance (watch the student more closely, put fail safes into place so that the student was much more likely to be caught if he/she cheated, take steps to insure the student is fully aware of the consequences of cheating)…

If you are educated about the warning signs of typical characteristics of children, adolescents, adults and people with mental disabilities etc. then you will be able to be….one-step-ahead of them….so to speak. If you understand and have been trained in this area (of behaviors) then modification of these behaviors (by you) is much easier. It also will teach you more patience with others (b/c you understand where they’re coming from or what they’re dealing with).
Predicting behavior gives one the opportunity to consider options before an incident or an action is taken. Understanding behavior allows one to predict a behavior, or perhaps the cause.
