probably because the wall of your house is blocking the signal or maybe you have some other device which cancels out the signal. have you bought any new electronic stuff lately? that could be the problem.
maybe out of range, how high is your apartment up ?
if your not that high up, you should try opening a window and hang it out the window right behind the screen; a closed window, especially at a distance, can block some of the waves that are coming from your remote
