No, there aren’t. I’m sure this will get “thumbs down” (probably by the work at home scammers themselves, who frequent this site). This question gets asked probably 1,000+ times a day on any given day, throughout the Yahoo Answers sites of the world. If there were legit work at home jobs…everybody would be doing them as a second, part-time job apart from their full-time job. Most of these work at home jobs require a ‘fee’ - which is how the scammer makes their money. That’s all they are posting the jobs for, to begin with. If they couldn’t get a ‘fee’ out of a single person that would fall for these ads…then these work at home ads will disappear.
The only legit work at home jobs are for those who own their own business, and therefore have tasks that can be done at home, usually using their home computer to access their office computer remotely. So they can call and chat with so and so, who works for them…and therefore “work at home.”
The fact is…there are none of these ‘data entry’ positions that I’ve seen ads for, all over the Internet. No hospital/medical facility/medical company is going to pay some stranger who is at their home, to code/process secure and confidential data about patients. That just doesn’t happen…not with all of the identity theft and such going on nowadays. I worked at a datacard warehouse that printed Aetna insurance cards and created credit cards and all sorts of other cards. I had to scan my way through about 5 doors/rooms to get to the production facility. Then the whole time that I worked, I had cameras on me…because I was able to see all of these names and addresses…as well as health care plan numbers on the cards, etc. Not to mention the credit card data.
The same thing with these data entry positions…they do background and credit checks on potential job candidates. There usually can’t be any blemishes on the credit reports of those hired for sensitive data positions. This prevents many people from getting jobs like this, even though they have worked in an office environment and might have years and years of data entry experience. It’s all about trust from the company, and they seem to figure that anyone with a bad mark on their credit…is susceptible to participating in identity theft. So they wouldn’t just let some random stranger at home do those things. The same thing with researching, and other tasks involving data entry. There are a lot of “Customer Service” work at home jobs that are advertised, as well. However…the realistic approach and method a company would have to use to forward incoming calls to someone’s home phone…would not be something that a legit company would do. They use people in a call center, and usually pay them about $10 to $16 an hour for it.
